OTTAWA, December 7, 2011 – CARL Announces its Inaugural Librarians’ Research Institute, June 11- 14, 2012, University of Windsor.
“The inaugural Librarians’ Research Institute is a very exciting opportunity for academic librarians from across Canada to come together and begin to forge a solid research community in Canadian academic libraries,” explains Gwendolyn Ebbett, the Chair of the CARL Research Libraries Committee and the University Librarian at the University of Windsor. Ebbett further notes that “being able to offer this type of support and encouragement to our practising librarians in the areas of research and scholarship is a tremendous opportunity for CARL Institutions.”
Hosted by the University of Windsor June 11- 14, 2012 and co-sponsored by the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library, the University Library, University of Saskatchewan and CARL, the Librarians’ Research Institute will provide practicing academic librarians in Canada an opportunity to immerse themselves in sustained conversations and activities related to scholarly research, inquiry, and publishing.
Working with a team of skilled Peer Mentors, Institute Participants will partake in an intensive workshop experience intended to take their current research projects to a more advanced level. Participants and Peer Mentors will have an opportunity to make connections with other researching librarians from across Canada and to build the scholarly research networks required to develop a vibrant research community.
For the Inaugural Librarians’ Research Institute, CARL will sponsor the registration fees for one librarian per CARL institution. As Program Committee Chair Selinda Berg explains, “We wanted to make sure that each CARL institution has the opportunity to send one librarian to the Institute so that they may return to their home institution and share their knowledge and enthusiasm about research with their peers and colleagues.” To find out more about the Librarians’ Research Institute and how to apply to be a Peer Mentor or a Participant, please visit the CARL website at http://www.carl-abrc.ca/en/research-libraries/librarians-research-institute.html.
